Event Base were excited to be approached to be part of the production team bringing the blockbuster science exhibition Bug Lab, created by Te Papa and Weta Workshop, to Auckland Zoo. Auckland Zoo requirements were for the design and build of a long-term event environment that could house the Bug Lab exhibition. The brief was for event structures that were going to withstand the elements in the long-term and fit the overall look and visual aspirations of the bug lab. Additionally the structure was also required to be large enough to cover an exhibition space of 1000 sqm.
Our team proposed our Creative Structures marquee systems as the best fit for the brief. The ability to interlink the marquee structures added the perfect balance of individual exhibition zones while also creating a space large enough to house the exhibition. The distinctive smooth round canopy and dome shape added the aesthetic appeal of feeling like you are entering into a bug’s eye view on entering the structures while looking clean and contemporary on the outside. Additionally, our partners at Creative Structures deliver only the highest quality structures ensuring the finished build had the strength, rigidity and durability to endure in the long-term.
We were very excited to experience the finished exhibition at the Bugs Opening Party at Auckland. It was wonderful to see the different elements and structures come together to create a fantastic exhibition experience from the mystery of entering through the tunnel into the marquees and the wonderful ‘bugs world’ atmosphere created by the domes. We loved being a part of the team bringing together this showcase at Auckland Zoo and the feedback from our happy clients.
