Pharos Festival - Newmarket Wellness Centre

The Project

Live Nation Australasia contacted Event Base, needing a structural event solution to meet their requirements for a wellness centre at the highly anticipated ‘Childish Gambino' Pharos Music Festival in Auckland in November 2018. The wellness centre required three large-scale separate structures designed to promote sensory interactions – sound, touch, and visual stimulus as well as exhibiting Gambino’s new collaboration with Adidas Originals.

To pull off this project, in a very short turnaround (less than two weeks), Event Base had to hit the ground running, and pulled in to the mix our go-to design and engineering expert Isaac McCormick. The solution developed utilised a clever truss structure design with an inverted custom fabric pitch roof and a unique funnelling system that kept water from pooling in the centre and dispersed it away from the structure. The mesh fabric walls were lit up in white, blue and red for each space creating a fully interactive and immersive experience for festival goers.The event was a huge success and social media and the media was abuzz with stories about this unique festival experience with attendees describing it as "spectacular", "eye-dropping", "a once in a lifetime experience" and the NZ Herald calling it "overwhelming in the best way". The immersive wellness centre was a hive of activity and central spot for many attendees, fulfilling its purpose as a way to connect festival goers with each other and reconnect them with their natural state of being.
